Wonderful forever

So I’m back!

After nearly two months of ‘lack of activity’, this dusty ol’ table is ready to get crackin’!

(Sucked, didn’t it? 😅)

Anyways, the post which I am presenting you today is not actually a brand new one, but it’s one from the archives of Fanfiction.net .

If you guys have EVER read my first post, All about writing then you would know that I also write fanfiction, or fiction squared as I like to call it. Why?

Because one is writing a work of fiction on an already established work of fiction. So it’s fiction of fiction. i.e. fiction raised to the power of two! Don’t know about you, but I find it pretty interesting…

(BTW, Yes. I do have friends in real life, thank you for asking. 😒)

This post is actually a fanfiction of the popular TV show, FRIENDS , a show which reignited the writer inside me. I first published this on fanfiction more than a year ago. It’s actually a short story collection based on the couple Chandler and Monica (or Mondler as they are fondly called by us fans)

The reason why I chose this story (and one more, which I’ll be publishing as and when I find time) is because they blend well with the overall theme of this blog. Pensive. The rest don’t and hence won’t be published here. But you can always find them on Fanfiction! Read my first post for the links.

The blog version is going to be slightly different, and by that I mean that you really don’t need to have watched the show to read this. The references to the show have been moulded and pruned accordingly. So people who haven’t watched the show need not bicker or walk away! I’m thoughtful like that, you know….

Let’s get started!

Wonderful Forever

Wonderful forever

Monica put on her reading glasses as she turned to open or rather, read her anniversary present. Though Chandler’s presence, especially today would’ve meant everything to her, she understood the unavoidable commitments his job came with. The last time they were forced to see so less of each other was when he had been transferred to Tulsa, a time when she had got to see him only for three days a week. Things couldn’t have been more different this time.

Chandler had made his mark in the advertising firm so fast that under two years he was being offered jobs in the comic book industry. And from there, he never looked back. From comic books to short stories and then to his first novel, he became an immediate success. The fact that he was the son of an established author did help, but he made it very clear in all his interviews that he was never ever going to write books of the same genre as his mother. Erotica, to be precise. Monica could only laugh at the thought of him writing something even remotely close. That was why she was taken by surprise when he had chosen to write something romantic.

Until now, Chandler had always shown her his drafts, and used to seek her advice whenever he was out of ideas. She helped him in any way she could and was really happy that she was the only one who got to read the books before they were made public. Her best friend, Rachel, had tried snooping, begging, even betting once to know what was in his next book, as she always had limited tolerance to suspense. But Chandler, knowing that she was a huge gossip no matter how hard she tried, had stayed shut and so did she. Now, she totally understood how Rachel must have felt all this time. She had been kept in the dark for 6 whole months and it surely had driven her crazy. And that was why she was breaking her promise to not open the book until the day of their anniversary. Ehh, she thought. He was a few thousand miles away on his book tour. He should’ve known better than to trust her with a present. And an anniversary one at that!

Her face brightened with excitement when she saw the name of the book.

Wonderful… Forever

The name struck a chord, as this was exactly how she would’ve described her life right now. It was wonderful and she just knew that, that was how it would be for as long as they were together. Flipping through the pages containing the title and the publication details, she had intended to start reading the book right away, but a page made her stop, filling her eyes with gratitude and amazement.

‘To Monica,

For being my wife, my best friend and everything else I could’ve ever asked for’

And he thinks that he isn’t romantic, she thought rolling her eyes. She wished he were here to tell him that it was actually the other way round.

Unable to resist the temptation to read further she continued on to the next page.

Prologue : Wonderful Tonight

Whenever someone asks me how married life has been for me, I am always reminded of the song ‘Wonderful Tonight’ by Eric Clapton, for it has a special place in my heart. After all, it was this song to which we had slow danced on the night we got engaged.

It’s late in the evening; she’s wondering what clothes to wear

She puts on her make-up and brushes her long blonde hair

And then she asks me, “Do I look alright?”

And I say “Yes, you look wonderful tonight”

We go to a party and everyone turns to see

This beautiful lady, that’s walking around with me

And then she asks me, “Do I feel alright?”

And I say “Yes, I feel wonderful tonight”

I feel wonderful because I see

The love light in your eyes

And the wonder of it all

Is that you just don’t realise how much I love you

It’s time to go home now and I’ve got an aching head

So I give her the car keys and she helps me to bed

And then I tell her, as I turn out the lights

“My darling you were wonderful tonight”

Oh, my darling you were wonderful tonight”

With you, Mon, everyday seems like a party. A reason to celebrate. Everyday it feels like I’m bathing in the spotlight of your eternal beauty, both inside and out. Everyday your love shines down upon me and I try to reciprocate it in whichever way I can.

The only change which I would like to make here is that with you, Mon, it’s not just wonderful tonight.

It’s Wonderful… Forever.

So…. That was the prologue! It was just an introduction. I have a couple of short stories aka chapters already written, which are much better and have some ‘real’ material. But before I roll them out I want your honest feedback on this post. For it’s the first time I’m publishing a fandom based short story on this blog.

Until next time! Which BTW can be real soon if you want to. You can be assured about that! 😊

I’ll be publishing two of them on WordPress as well, but I plan to loosen the FRIENDS element a bit so that even non-FRIENDS fans can understand it well….

Thank you! 😊 Although the words ‘patent’ and ‘stolen’ sound oxymoronic…. So I’m confused right now…😅
